Water Conservation Project - 2020

Location: Village - Poshera, Taluka - Mokhada, District - Palghar

...

Cement Nala Bandhara (CNB) has been constructed in a participatory approach. CNB dimensions are as follows-
Length - 30 Meter , Width - 2:1 Meter , Height - 3 Mater

Benefits to Village Poshera :

Due to Covid-19 village economy has severely been hampered. Palghar experiences heavy rainfall yet water scarcity is being experienced every year due to lack of water conservation treatments. Cement Nala Bandhara (CNB) is proven technique in the areas having hard Compact Basalt geology. CNB may prove beneficial to the village with the following aspects.

1. Water Storage:

CNB has a storage capacity of 10 TCM

...
2. Irrigation:

It creates a sustainable water resource for the villager’s farms and increases the groundwater level once the monsoon rains start. This allows them to provide protective irrigation to ‘Kharip’ crops and grow 'Rabbi' crops as well.

...
3. Income:

At least 20% increase in production and income is expected. Availability of water may help villagers for floriculture and growing vegetables.

...
4. Drinking water:

Pressure of stored water may result in recharging wells in catchment area.

...
5. Crop pattern:

Due to different types of seeds provided, farmers are motivated to do experiments and increase their income. Also, this change in cropping pattern will help in demand side management of water.

...
...
6. Employment:

It provides the local people with employment during Covid-19 restrictions when there is hardly any work generated through ‘MNREGA’ scheme. During our work, each family at least earned Rs.9375/- within the period of 45 days which helped them to purchase grocery, medical treatment, school stationary, buying fertilizers. Etc.

...
7. Capacity building:

Since the villagers were involved in every step of constructing a CNB they are now well aware of designing, implementation and quality checks of such works. Villagers will be able to monitor such works in future and ask the authorities to take corrective measures in case of irregularities.
